Why I started this website
I have been a user and proponent of traditional plant medicines of all cultures for the last ten years. My interest in plant medicine began with traditional Chinese herbal medicine, when, suffering from kidney stones and also from chronic fatigue after a severe glandular infection, and finding no relief from mainstream medical treatment, I stumbled into the clinic of an acupuncturist and practitioner of Chinese traditional herbal medicine. Within two weeks, after years of suffering debilitating fatigue and crippling pain from kidney stones, I was cured and remain so to this day (nearly 10 years later).
Not long after this, I also suffered from an inflamed floating rib, which caused intense pain and made it almost impossible to sit comfortably, which is a bit of a problem when you have an office job. The doctors advice was to use steroids to treat the inflammation, and if that didn't work, they would consider amputating my rib! I didn't much like the sound of either steroids or amputation, so it was back to the acupuncturist and I was cured after three treatments and a course of herbs. Again, there was no recurrence.
These seeming miracles really got me interested and I devoted a lot of time to finding out about other plant medicines. Then, in 2012, a freak accident left me with my tibia broken in two places. I recovered after surgery and learnt to walk again, but the pain I suffered from the injury, from surgery, and during the recovery never left me. I came to believe that this was just how it would be for the rest of my life.
A little over three years after my accident, on a trip to South America to drink ayahuasca for the first time, I was also introduced to San Pedro cactus in Cusco, Peru. The first time I drank San Pedro was a transformative experience. As I journeyed with the medicine, it showed me many things, and told me I should climb an enormous hill behind the retreat where I was staying. I followed the advice of the cactus teacher, and later that day after walking for many hours (something I hadn't been able to do since my accident) I realised that the pain I had been carrying in my injured leg was gone. I had been in pain for so long, that my mind had accepted it and made it my reality. The San Pedro recognised this and removed it from me, thus showing me how we create our own reality, and demonstrating to me the power and intelligence of the medicine. I truly believe that no pharmaceutical medication could have done this (and I tried most of them). The only really effective pain killer during my ordeal was cannabis, and that only ever worked temporarily for me.
The juggernaut of the pharmaceutical industry wishes to suppress knowledge and use of many alternative herbal and homeopathic remedies and this is what I wish to combat. It's a bit of a cliche, but pharmaceutical companies do not make money from healthy, well-informed people.
